Our Aims & Ethos

“Learning, to me, means making more sense of the world around us, and being able to do more things in it.”John Holt, 1989

Here at Caton Community Primary School,
we spend seven years preparing children for their future.

We consider that to be the best job in the world but as we don’t know what their ‘best jobs’ will be, we concentrate on building confidence and capacity in them, encourage their curiosity and critical thinking making sure they continue their passion for learning and nurture strong relationships.

“Our task is to help children communicate with the world using all their potential, strengths and languages, and to overcome any obstacle presented by our culture”Loris Malaguzzi

By the time a child leaves us we want them to be well on their way to being equipped for the test of life. Happy, secure, bursting with potential with a toolkit full of the skills to continue their learning journey at the highest level.

We believe that every child can be this good…that being them is the best thing ever.

The 8 Characteristics

We believe that, as practitioners, we need to get it right, to ensure that our school is a place where children can be the best that they can be.

We strive to provide a quality education, reflecting critically on our practices and adapting and developing our strategies to ensure we offer the most appropriate learning opportunities at all times.

We aim for the education we provide to take children confidently into the secondary phase of their education and beyond, as lifelong learners.

With this in mind, we aim to teach our children to recognise and apply a set of characteristics and their corresponding attitudes, skills and dispositions  during their learning opportunities.

These characteristics apply to all children no matter what their age or ability and are chosen to be built upon year on year to enhance learning.

So what are these Characteristics?
